Morning Warrior

It is the choices I make that determine my outcome. Sometimes is difficult because we can catch ourselves looking to the right and to left that we get distracted. I have to remind myself that I am a unique individual and what works for me may not for someone else. With that being said these are just some of my steps to what I call a "Morning Warrior."

1st: Prepare everything the night before. Coffee, water bottle, clothes, music, shoes, anything that will make the morning more enjoyable.

Quick side note: I keep an extra set of workout clothes ready, so if I am too tired I have a set ready to go.

2nd: Yes, the alarm is going to go off early. Yes, it will suck and it might for a while. Don't beat yourself up, but it will get easier.

Quick side note: To make yourself get up out of bed, place the alarm across the room.

3rd: You might be really tired, coffee is your friend. (Remember I have 2 children and a career.)

4th: Pick a workout you LOVE and ENJOY. Who wants to wake up to do something they dislike?

5th: Start off with shorter workouts and then increase the time as you get more used to waking up.

6th: When you feel like crawling back into bed tell yourself "I AM a Morning Warrior!"

Join me in starting your day off with a good sweat and the rush that yes, you can!

Send me a facebook message or tweet me that you are here and that you are a "Morning Warrior!"

  1. Hello Kima,
I am one of Mr. Spaulding's students. I find it great that you are trying to sleep more. Many people don't know the benefits of sleep, and its good to keep the motto, "Sleep at all costs". We as humans use sleep to organize our days, repair, but also to balance the amount of toxins and hormones in our bodies. That is why you should not have too much coffee in the morning, although a cup or two is not the worst thing you can do. I would suggest that you try other alternatives that offer more benefits like Camellia sinensis derived teas, yerba matte, or just drinking a liter of water the moment you wake up. Giving up coffee is something difficult, but giving it up is a great accomplishment as your body will not be a align to a substance.Giving up processed sugars can also have the same effect as sugar causes the brain to flip-upside down. That is why sugar is an addiction many never give up in their lifetimes. I would also suggest that you relax before going to sleep. Don't implement more stress and adrenaline hormones on your brain that is trying to rest (Save all those hormones for your work out). I will also suggest you avoid all light. Sleep is made by neurotransmitters not by the body( Imagine working out and suddendly feeling so tired you fall a sleep). Our body produces neurotransmitters when they sense less light than in the day. That is why people sleep at different time in the world, why people get sleepy during the winter months, and why we sleep at night. Another big component is your diet as the more toxins your body needs to get rid off, the less of your sleep that will be in deeper states were you will feel more rested and wake up more energized and also the longer you will need to sleep. Remember, life is stressful, but without reboosting our energy during sleep, we are not fully prepared to deal with the next day face on.

    1. That is a very healthy perspective you have. You will be happy to know that I occasionally am cutting back on coffee :) and I do enjoy naps with my little ones on the weekends. Nothing replaces your energy like a good nap!

  2. As I was reading this list I couldn't help but smile at the point that you made to put the alarm clock across the room, because I have thought about doing that so many times. But I realized that I would just ignore my phone alarm and fall back asleep and be late for school(plus my phone charges by my bed).

I won't get technical in scientific terms, and my comment will be pretty generic (sorry for that) but I'm just writing a random reflection on this blog.

All of your ideas for your "goal" list(? I'm not sure what to call it) seem like really good ideas. Some of them cvan even apply for mornings where you don't work out. Such as the planning ahead (and setting everything out), because I know I get ready easier in the morning when I know what I want to wear, do, etc.

I've never really considered working out in the morning because I'm always so tired. I already knew that working out in the morning was good for you. But reading this also made me realize that I actually should start trying to do it. Even though I'm tired working out might be a way to wake myself up. Even if I don't do a lot, just a few exercises/sets or stretching could even be good (or at least better than now what I'm doing now).

I have to admit, the most entertaining part of the list was to tell yourself "I am a morning warrior!" This is because I imagined myself screaming/yelling that in the morning and my sister getting angry because I'm waking her up.

    1. I have to say I re-read your post a few times. Simple is good I say. You made me laugh with your last sentence. I too have to say it a bit quietly so I do not wake up our house :) but in my head I am saying it loud!

    2. Hahah! I just read back on this comment I made a while ago. I'm glad I made you laugh. Did you re-read it because you confused? Sometimes I ramble. Sorry. :D

  3. Kima,
I'm one of Mr.Spaulding's students as well. I read through a couple of your blogs and they are great! This one really caught my eye because it has to do with something that a lot of teenagers dread, waking up in the morning. This list has amazing ideas to help out in the mornings! It can apply to anyone, even if they don't work out, because its just about being prepared, mentally and physically, for your day! So I would like to thank you for sharing this list of amazing ideas, and I just thought I'd let you know that I surely will be trying this out in the mornings!
    Sincerely,
A soon to be "Morning Warrior"

    1. There is research that shows you think better and can focus more with some good cardio in the morning. Have you been trying it out?

  4. Dear Kima,

I am one of Spaulding's students as well. Although this blog was the shortest and simplest, I have to say it was my favorite. I always tell myself that I need to workout more, but aside from wellness, I don't find the time to workout. There is always the morning, but of course I steered away from that idea. With that being said, this blog post is what I needed to give me the motivation to get up, workout, and be a morning warrior! Thanks!

  5. Hi! After reading this post I found it inspirational for those who may want to try early morning workouts. I used to do them but I lost interest in the workout. This article was helpful and after reading it I may follow the tips and begin working out again and become a morning warrior

  6. Thanks for posting up this blog. I can REALLY relate to this. I find these steps very helpful. Its really hard for me to get a morning workout in. I try to jog in the morning, but its early, so its dark and gets me even sleepier. I do other workouts, but stop doing them after two or three days. I'm just not used to waking up early. Probably, because I am not prepared to. The only steps I have down are steps 1 and 3. I like to prepare my things before I go to sleep and have coffee every morning. I think putting my alarm clock across the room is a good idea! I always use my phone alarm and find myself turning off the alarm in my sleep.(So it seems)But after reading these steps I feel more prepared and motivated to wake up and get active. I will think twice now before I go back to bed in the morning, or when I put my alarms on snooze. Thanks!

    1. That is the trick that worked for me to get it to be a habit. Once you physically have to get up to turn off the alarm, I found myself less likely to go back to bed. Waking up 3 days a week is a good habit! Strive for that first and you will soon be a morning person :)

  7. "I AM A MORNING WARRIOR"!!!!! This was a really inspirational blog. I am not really the kind of person to read a blog. But this really made me wanna come back and read some more. This made me think about how i always hope and dream that i can have that 6 pack that i always wanted and never really wanted to put in the work. But this showed me that i can get up and do what i need to do to look like i want and this is a great way start.! Thanks
